St Andrew’s Jets Under 9’s
League match 12/02/11
Jets 2 – 1 Leigh Genesis
Another hard fought win for the Jets, that could easily have been 5 or 6 – 1 , but for some great goalkeeping by Leigh.
The match eventually got underway after a grudging pitch inspection by the Leigh coach (when the pitch was obviously playable). From the kick off the Jets were on the attack and it continued that way all half. Aaron was asked to do a role in defence, with Aiden being on holiday. After a few early chances, Adam L slid the ball across to Liam who put it in the net for the first. Leigh got an easy equaliser a few minutes later, when Joel and Oliver were uncharacteristically not paying attention to a quick throw in. There were many other good chances for the Jets before half time, Adam L hitting the side netting twice and two great reaction saves by the Leigh keeper stopping shots from Liam and James.
The second half continued in the same way, with the Jets dominating territory and possession. Time and again, good chances were denied by the Leigh keeper, a lot of corners resulting. Adam B came the closest with a shot bobbling and sticking in the mud, just on the line, in the view of the Ref! Finally, Nathan got the winner slamming home a shot after a good pass through from James on the left. Even in the last two minutes the Jets created another couple of good chances, finishing deserving winners.
Scorers: Liam, 1; Nathan, 1
MoM: Aaron, for sterling work out of position in defence.
